Today, my journal prompt gave me this gem: "Do. Or do not. There is no try." – Yoda.
Why I So Totally Got This Today: January 6, 2025
I find Yoda’s words hilarious in how they reflect my approach to life today. Maybe there’s some deep wisdom in this lesson from a little green alien with supernatural powers: I either do a thing, or I don’t. That perspective takes a lot of pressure off my shoulders.
There’s something about trying that feels lackluster, like there’s little reward in the effort. But doing—now that’s a decision. It’s movement, a step forward, whether small or big, and that movement carries purpose. It creates excitement.
Jedi Knights could move things with their minds—awesome! While I don’t have that talent, I can move my thoughts with my mind. Choosing to do something shows a willingness to change. And choosing to not do something can be equally powerful when guided by the right motives.
Do exercise. Do drink water. Do get enough sleep. Do eat nutritious foods.
Do not cross a busy highway at night when cars are speeding at 80 mph. That choice could save your life. Motives matter.
I do not eat too much sugar. I do not do CrossFit anymore because it crushes my vertebrae. I do not stay up all night drinking copious amounts of tequila.
So today, I do and I do not do—and that feels like I’m winning.
